Menssana Systems: BreathLinkTM

BreathLinkTM (patent pending) is a cloud application for the collection, concentration and analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in human breath.

It is used with our BreathscannerTM, a mobile point-of-care system which can be used anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. The patient simply breathes into it for two minutes.

Less than ten minutes later, the system identifies markers of oxidative stress and disease using proprietary algorithms on servers in a central laboratory. All data are sent and received with defense-level encryption.

Alveolar breath VOC samples are separated by gas chromatography and detected with flame ionization (GC-FID) or surface acoustic wave detection (GC-SAW) with picomolar sensitivity (parts per trillion).

In a recent multicenter international study, the BreathLinkTM breath test accurately identified patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis.

The BreathLink system is currently in clinical studies of detection of other diseases, including breast cancer, lung cancer, and heart transplant rejection.

This device has not been cleared or approved for use by the FDA. It is being used for clinical investigation only.
