When used with our BCA, this is a sensitive test for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in breath and air. Samples are collected with a breath collection apparatus (BCA) and assayed in the laboratory with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The most abundant VOCs detected in breath and air are ranked according to their percentage of the total VOCs in the sample.

Analytical methods (PDF document) reported in: Phillips M: Method for the collection and assay of volatile organic compounds in breath. Analytical Biochemistry 1997; 247:272-278.

Accuracy of VOC identifications: GC/MS identifies VOCs with high accuracy, but it is not an infallible technique. The top NIST library identifications of VOCs are reported with their fit score (up to a maximum of 1,000) with the NIST library mass spectrum.

This is not intended for use as a test for disease. This test reports volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detected in breath and air.
